Toastmasters Announce Officers,

Next Meeting

The recently formed Newtown Toastmasters, which meets on the first Wednesday and third Tuesday of each month, has elected its first slate of officers.

Tom Long will be the organization’s president for fiscal year 2009. Others in the leadership team include vice president-education, Cindy Held; vice president-membership, Angelica Spragins; vice president-public relations, John O’Leary; treasurer, Vijay Santhanam; and sergeant at arms, Alenda Calderbank.

Newtown Toastmasters meets at the Parks and Recreation Department conference room in Town Hall South, 3 Main Street, from at 7 to 9 pm. The group is there to help conquer public speaking concerns.

While new to the community, Newtown Toastmasters has joined forces with 12,000 other clubs as part of Toastmasters International, a nonprofit organization serving more than 250,000 members in 106 countries. Since its founding in 1924, Toastmasters International has helped more than four million men and women develop their public speaking skills and become confident communicators at work, at home, and yes, even at parties.

The next Newtown Toastmasters meeting will be Wednesday, September 2. Guests are always welcome.
