On The Run
On The Run
To the Editor:
The race is on! The 32nd Annual 5K Rocking Rooster Run will be held on Saturday, June 2, at 8:30 am, at Reed Intermediate School. The Newtown Parks and Rec in conjunction with the local Girls On the Run program will coordinate the popular event. As in years past, the proceeds will benefit the Newtown Scholarship Fund.
Girls On the Run is a national program designed for third to fifth grade girls to increase their activity/fitness level and self-esteem while at the same time teaching them life skills that will be beneficial to them as they enter the middle school. The girls will compete in the race as well as assist with the planning of the race as their community project for the spring season.
Run, walk, or come to socialize â thereâs plenty of reasons to join us for the fun-filled race! Registration forms are now available through Parks and Rec and The Fitness Loft.
Planning stages are underway for the race. We are looking for all of those individuals/businesses who are interested in supporting the local event. Whether it is volunteering the day of the race, making a monetary donation, or providing products/services as prizes for the raffle at the end of the race, there is an opportunity for everyone to support the race and the Newtown Scholarship Fund.
For further information, please contact me at mlraftery@earthlink.net or the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department.
See you June 2!
