State Rep Wasserman Recovering After Bypass Surgery
State Rep Julia Wasserman is recovering at Yale-New Haven Hospital after
undergoing triple bypass surgery on Monday.
Marie Sturdevant, chairperson of the Republican Town Committee, said Rep
Wasserman "feels wonderful" and is expected to be discharged early next week.
"Her spirits are very high," Mrs Sturdevant said.
Mrs Wasserman, 74, visited her doctor last Friday because of chest pains after
spending the morning in Hartford at a meeting with Richard Nuclo, director of
the Office of Policy and Management, and First Selectman Herb Rosenthal to
discuss the future use of Fairfield Hills.
"She was sent to Danbury Hospital for an angiogram, then transported to
Yale-New Haven for surgery," Mrs Sturdevant said.
Last November, the Republican representative won a fifth term in the 106th
State House district, which includes northwest Newtown and most of Bethel. She
easily defeated her only challenger, Charles Noe, 41, of Bethel, who ran as an
independent.
Two weeks ago signs were erected on the bypass road through Fairfield Hills,
renaming it Wasserman Way in her honor. Rep Wasserman has been involved for
years in protecting the town's interest in the future use of the 650-acre
former mental health hospital.
Mrs Wasserman lives in Sandy Hook with her husband, Dr Louis R. Wasserman, 87.
"We're asking everyone not to visit because she needs her rest," Mrs
Sturdevant said. Cards may be sent to Mrs Wasserman, c/o Box 848, Sandy Hook,
CT 06482.
