NHS Students Selected For Western Region High School Music Festival
Multiple Newtown High School music students participated in the Western Region Music Festival auditions in November. The Western Region Music Festival is the first step in the All-State process, according to the Newtown High School blog, www.dumais.us/newtown/blog. More than 60 students auditioned on November 21; 27 were selected to participate in this yearâs festival. On January 15 and 16 they will join other high school musicians from Fairfield County at New Canaan High School for two days of rehearsal and concert. Each of the ensembles (Concert Band, Chorus, Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble) will be rehearsed by nationally recognized guest conductors.
The students who will be participating in the festival in January are Liam Reynolds, jazz trombone and trombone-concert band; Andrew Jensen, jazz trombone; Corey Hilton, percussion; Chris Segovia, baritone saxophone; Niall Reynolds, clarinet; Ashley Malia, french horn; Tyler Grant, tuba; Wending Lu, violin; Alyssa Rodriguez, violin; Leah Pinckney, violin; and vocalists Bianca Crudo, Kamryn Harmeling, Sarah Poarch, Andrew Nichols, Jake Eventoff, Hannah DeFlumeri, Katie McMorran, Katie Cummings, Kayla OâLeary, Leah Barrett, Brenna Calderara, Zoe DeStories, John Daniel Knapp, Matthew Madden, George Primavera, Chris Hunter, and Mark Malia.
