Margaret Mary (Kelly) McAllister Spain, 82, of Southbury, died December 18, at River Glen Health Care Center.  She was born August 24, 1927, in Brewster, N.Y., the daughter of Christopher and Ellen (Morley) Kelly.
 She married Colin W. McAllister August 16, 1951, at St Lawrence OâToole Church in Brewster N.Y. They had six children, including T. William of Woodbury, a firefighter and former resident of Newtown; and a son, Christopher Colin, who predeceased her. Seventeen grandchildren also survive Mrs Spain, as do 27 nephews and nieces.
She earned her bachelor of science degree at Good Counsel College in White Plains, N.Y., and continued her graduate education at NYU, WestConn, Fairfield University, and SUNY, New Paltz, N.Y.,
After her husbandâs death in 1968, she decided to sell the family insurance business and return to teaching. She entered into the Danbury school system in September of 1969.
She married Darius Spain in a ceremony at St Rose of Lima church in Newtown in 1987. Mr Spain died in 2005.
 The family is grateful for the help of many friends, neighbors and caregivers for their limitless acts of kindness as Mrs Spain traveled the difficult road of Alzheimerâs.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 23. Interment followed at St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund in Mrs Spainâs name, in care of Gateway Community College Foundation, 60 Sargent Drive, New Haven CT 06511, or to a local fire or ambulance service in her name.
