Santa And Soccer

To the Editor:

This past weekend the D’Amico family of Newtown coordinated a “Santa and Soccer” event at Newtown Youth Academy. This event was free to all families. On behalf of the D’Amico family we would like to thank Bulk Materials International, SCB Office Park, and the staff at NYA in Newtown and at Bulk Materials, for sponsoring and helping with this event.

We would also like to thank the following businesses who graciously donated to our event: Avance Esthetiques, New Balance, Sabrina’s Encore Productions, Mona Lisa, The Villa, Pizza Palace, Sheer Image Salon, Excel Tutoring, Bagel Delight, and Big Y. In light of difficult economic times, these businesses offered to help and give back to their community. Their generosity is admirable.

In addition, there were many high school and college students from Newtown and Bethel that volunteered to collect soccer balls, face paint, help with crafts, serve food, and teach soccer. We were very appreciative of their willingness to help. Teenagers from Sabrina’s Encore Productions also volunteered their time and delightfully performed a holiday concert. It was magical!

The true joy of this event was seeing the children’s faces when they met Santa and opened their present. What a wonderful way to kick off the week before Christmas!
