St Vincent’s Family Fun Day Honors

World Breastfeeding Week

BRIDGEPORT — St Vincent’s Family Birthing Center invites all interested mothers and their families to join them at the Beardsley Park Zoo on Saturday, August 7, at 11 am to help celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.

Festivities include access to zoo exhibits and free musical entertainment for babies and young children from 11:30 to 12:30 pm, provided by Music Together of Fairfield County. The Music Together Show provides upbeat, interactive, informal family music with dancing, singing, and instrument playing.

Those who wish to participate should meet at the Peacock Pavilion at 11 am. Free admission will be granted to those who wear a gold ribbon of any kind symbolizing breast milk as the gold standard in infant feeding.

This year’s theme for World Breast Feeding is “Exclusive Breastfeeding . . . Gold Standard, Safe, Sound, and Sustainable,” and will take place the first week of August. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the numerous medical benefits breastfeeding provides for both mother and child. St Vincent’s Lactation Consultant Debbie Cohen says, “Studies have proved that breastfeeding can help reduce the risk of breast/ovarian cancer for the mother, and exclusive breastfeeding can decrease the likelihood for the child to develop allergies and asthma.”

For more information about the zoo celebration, St Vincent’s Family Birthing Center, or other activities during World Breastfeeding Week, contact Debbie Cohen at 203-576-6080 or dcohen@svhs-ct.org.
