Lifelong Sandy Hook Resident
Marion (Drew) Rothe, 75, wife of the late Frank Rothe of Sandy Hook, died March 22, after a long illness. She was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., October 15, 1934, a daughter of Helen (Gardner) and Julian Drew. She lived most of her life in Sandy Hook and was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1952.
She was married October 5, 1952, and worked most of her married life as a waitress at local restaurants.
Mrs Rothe was an active member of the Newtown United Methodist Church where she served as a Liturgist Coordinator, and was a member of the Bible Class, Memorial and Worship Committees. Mrs Rothe was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 2001, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she joined a disciple group led by the Reverend Sue Klein that, along with her family, became her support group that helped her through the chemo and radiation treatments.
Mrs Rothe loved butterflies and had them throughout her home.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Rothe of Yorktown, Va., Cliff Rothe of Southbury, and Glenn Rothe of Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Barbara Lestik of Inverness, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith, in 1985; and by her husband in 1995
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 27, at noon, in the Newtown United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Zoar Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Friday, March 26, from 5 to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook CT 06470 will be appreciated.
