CL&P, Yankee Gas Programs Available

BERLIN ––  Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) and Yankee Gas remind customers who may have difficulty paying their electric and natural gas bills this winter that now is the time to sign up for programs, including state-administered ones, that can assist them.

“We urge those who may be eligible for [these programs] to sign up as soon as possible,” said Sharon Eberman, director of Customer Experience Operations for CL&P and Yankee Gas. “There is less federal funding available and a possibility that the state programs may run out of money soon.”

Programs include Winter Protection Program, which protects qualified, income-eligible customers from electric service shut-offs or natural gas shut-offs for nonpayment; and Matching Payment Program, which allows limited-income customers with past-due balances to work out monthly payment arrangements so their service is provided year-round. CL&P customers should call 800-286-2828 (860-947-2828 in the Hartford and Meriden calling areas), and Yankee Gas customers should call 800-438-2278 for details on these programs.

Additional programs include WRAP Program, to assist limited-income customers (renters or owners) by making their homes more energy-efficient, while promoting energy conservation (call 800-388-9727 for details or an application); Budget Billing (call 800-286-2000 or visit cl-p.com, or 800-989-0900 or visit YankeeGas.com); NUSTART, which helps limited-income CL&P customers maintain year-round electric service (call 800-286-2828); State Energy Assistance Programs, details of which can be accessed by calling 211.
