Nighthawk Girls’ Tennis Team Results

Newtown High School’s girls’ tennis team fell 5-2 to Weston on April 28, then topped Bethel 7-0 on April 29 to carry a 5-2 record into the middle of this week.

Against Weston, Newtown’s winners were No. 3 singles player Ale Fuentes, who pulled off a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Rebecca Zhu, and No. 4 singles player Nicole Vournazos, who knocked off Kelly Pierce 6-3, 7-6.

In the Bethel match, all of Newtown’s singles players and doubles tandems won in straight sets. Singles results are as follows: No. 1 Christina Ciamarra defeated Tiffani Bona 6-0, 6-1; No. 2 Lauren Frazetta defeated Melissa Osorio 6-0, 6-2; No. 3 Fuentes defeated Ally Cafferty 6-4, 6-2; No. 4 Jilliana Ciamarra defeated Katie Struth 6-3, 6-3. Doubles results: No. 1 Megan Loose and Ashley Cech defeated Cassidy Gentile and Karin Tse 6-0, 6-1; No. 2 Caitlyn O’Mahoney and Sara Benson defeated Katelynn Geist and Medhu Das 6-1, 6-2; No. 3 Stephanie Roman and Grace Winans defeated Aiden Ford and Danielle Wonge 6-3, 6-0.

The Nighthawks had matches with Bunnell of Stratford on Monday and Lauralton Hall of Milford on Tuesday postponed by rain.

They were scheduled to host New Fairfield on Wednesday (after The Bee sports section went to press).
