Wildcats 3, Tornado Smurfs 1: The Wildcatâs offense was led by Jackie Matthews (goal and two assists), Kaley Meisenheimer (goal and assist) and Sarah Widmann (goal). Hannah Groonell played a great overall game demonstrating strong ball handling and passing. Defensively, the Wildcats were led by Lindsay Gallagher and Laura Augenbraun.Lindsay Merrifield tallied a score and Aniko Walsh assisted in the loss. Lauren Adams and Eirene solidified the defense for most of the game. Nicole Keeping and Lin Vitarbo supported the Tornado Smurfs with solid play and great effort.

Newtown Breeze 1, Greenwich Power 0: Newtown kept the pressure on in an evenly matched game against Greenwich, with Savannah Mather, Maggie Beardsley, and Mary Hufziger making key offensive plays throughout the game. Sarah Houle scored the lone goal early in the second half off of a well-timed cross from Cassidy Kortze. Ashley Santore, Jessica Maturo, and Greta Staubly provided a powerful defense, while goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner played tough to keep Greenwich scoreless.
The Dynamites 3, Team #5 2: The Dynamites scored their first win against Team #5 in a close, well-played game. Mallory Lobuglio scored the first goal during a penalty kick, while Jackie Seras took on the offensive position with a goal scored, assisted by Marit Lyon. Emma Schmid-Tharnish scored another goal for the win. Strong defensive tactics by Cathy Hyeon, Julia Haskins, and Lauren Russo clinched the win for the Dynamites.
Newtown Heat 7, Trumbull 1: The Newtown Heat girls U10 team brought their game to Trumbull on Sunday, beating a tough Trumbull team by a score of 7-1. The Heat started their scoring with a nice pass from Anna Moscovici to Alexis Mason, who got the first of her three goals early in the first half. Maria Ringes gave Newtown its second goal with a high shot over the goalieâs head. Additional scores for the Heat came off the feet of Lauren King, Colleen McCarthy, and Anna Moscovici. Newtownâs strong defensive effort was led by Audrey Sedensky, Priya Deraney, Kira Kelly, Ally Paynter, and Catherine Shaw. Strong play by Ellie Frost, Elizabeth Chaniec-Case, and Diana Kirkman sealed the win.
Animals 4 vs Eagles 1: For the Animals, Haley Harkins, Taylor Pare and Allie Indelicato scored. Janyce Toth and Brianna Castellano made four saves each in goal. For the Eagles, Julia Doyle and Caroline Viselli played great all around games and Racheal Tomasino made several great saves in goal.

Newtown Thistle 2, Stamford Gold 2: Emily Neave was unstoppable on offense, scoring both of Newtownâs goals. Alexandra Manoni and Claire Beiter outplayed Stamford at midfield. Brianna Lutz continued to demonstrate speed and skill on the defensive end. Brianna MacDonald had another incredible game in the goal.

Wallingford 3, Lightning 1 (State Cup game): The Newtown girls showed solid teamwork and overall good play throughout the match, but they were eliminated from State Cup contention by a strong Wallingford team. Amy Martinelli had the only goal for the Lightning. Kate Fallon and Dale Shearin had good moves in the backfield and Andrea Rodriguez and Jesse Sailer played well in goal.
Lightning 1, Easton/Redding 0: The two teams battled scoreless for most of the contest with strong play by Newtown on both ends of the field. With minutes left in the game Easton/Redding was called for a handball just outside the box, and Emily Riley launched a stunning shot that cleared a block of jumping Easton-Redding defenders and curved into the corner of the goal to put Newtown in the lead. Amy Martinelli attacked ferociously on offense, while Shelby Tolla was a force with consistently well-placed corner kicks. Michelle Zarifis, Meg Korchman, and Sydney Allen played well on defense and Andrea Rodriguez had another good game in the nets.

Newtown B 6, GSA Madrid 0: The Newtown team played an excellent game, truly dominating the field. John Finnigan pulled off an amazing hat trick for Newtown! Additional goals were made by Aidan Ford, Jack Vaughn, and Danny Arneth. Tyler Trede showed off his tremendous goalkeeping skills.

Newtown 4, Danbury 1: On Saturday the U11 boys travel team played a powerful Danbury team in their second State Cup qualifier match. Newtownâs offense continued scoring tear beating Danbury 4-1. Hayes Kelchner started the scoring with a 20-foot blast, off a Richard Ciamarra pass, the first of two scores for Kelchner on the day. Austin Engler followed up shortly after with a breakaway for a score. Shane Gattey got into the action with a quick move that gave him a scoring shot from close range. Nathan Augenbraun and Owen Samson played great offense, moving the ball quickly through the Danbury defense. Connery Mayer and Forest Weatherby along with Jamie Cochrane played shut down D the entire afternoon. Robert Katrinak again had stand-on-his-head-type saves all day.
Newtown 8, Stamford 2: Sunday, Newtownâs offense really exploded with an 8-2 win over Stamford. Hayes Kelchner put the pressure on early and often with Newtownâs first hat trick of the year. Michael Meyers and Sebastian Forero each poured in two goals, continuing the devastation. Shane Gattey stayed on his scoring tear with one of his own. Thoams Leucisâs deadly passes quickly ripped through Stamfordâs D. Jamie Cochrane led another physical day for the defense with Jack Riley crushing any Stamford hopes of getting back in the game by keeping the ball on the oppositionâs side of the pitch all afternoon.
