NAMI Talk Focuses On Dual Diagnoses

FAIRFIELD — On Wednesday, June 2, NAMI Fairfield will host its First Wednesday of the Month Speaker Meeting. The topic will be “Dual Diagnosis — Mental Illness and Addiction.”

The presenter will be Chad McDonald, a psychotherapist with a license in alcohol and drug counseling. He works part-time at Silver Hill Hospital where he runs the Evening Intensive Outpatient Program, which is a dual diagnosis program.

This presentation will focus on a better understanding of the disease of mental illness and addiction. What do we mean when we say it is a disease? How is it diagnosed and how can it be treated? And finally what can the families of people who have these diseases do to be supportive.

The meeting will be held in the Eliot Room Library, First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, from 7:30 to 9 pm. It is open to the public, is free of charge, and light refreshments will be served.
