June Musical Programs

At Love & Knishes

SOUTHBURY — Whether it is jazz, harp music, Broadway tunes, or Jewish folksongs, four very diverse and entertaining musical programs will appeal to many different tastes at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program during June. Programs take place in the Jewish Federation’s social hall at 444 Main Street North.

All area adults age 60 and better are invited to make reservations to enjoy themselves with award-winning Jordan Caterers of Cheshire’s savory hot lunch, which is served at noon and followed by entertainment at 1 pm.

On June 1, pianist Roger Young will make the room sizzle with his medleys by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Fats Waller, and Duke Ellington, along with beloved medleys of show tunes.

On June 15, Harp Music & More with Lori Sunshine features a Massachusetts music therapist who lived in Scotland for 15 years. Ms Sunshine believes that music is a gift for everybody, and she shares those feelings as she sings and plays piano, guitar, and harp.

Her repertoire includes Jewish songs, all-time favorites to sing together from the Golden Oldies, and tunes from Israel and Scotland on her harp.

“Broadway Babes” is the theme of the June 22 program when pianist Jeanne Hinkson and vocalist Kay Mayr perform songs and skits from favorite Broadway shows.

And on June 29, “Jewish Folksong: The Language of the Soul” is an encore concert by Mark Levy of San Francisco.

Lunch reservations must be made by the Friday before each lunch. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7.50 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.

To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service director, at 203-267-3177, extension 105.
