‘Food For Life’ Cooking Class Continues

BRIDGEPORT — St. Vincent’s Medical Center is continuing its “Food For Life” series of free cooking classes to advance cancer prevention and survival after cancer through the sharing of nutritional education and research and a live cooking demonstration.

The classes, which address the nutritional needs of cancer survivors and also the link between good nutrition and cancer prevention and recurrence, are for cancer survivors, but also open to the general public.

The series is co-sponsored by St Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound and The Cancer Project.

All classes will run from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the Hawley Conference Center located on the fourth floor of St Vincent’s new Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care adjacent to the main hospital.

Schedule is as follows:

Thursday, June 3: “Discovering Dairy and Meat Alternatives”

Wednesday, June 9: “Cancer-Fighting Compounds and Healthy Weight Control”

The Cancer Project’s “Food For Life Nutrition and Cooking Series” was launched in 2001 to help cancer survivors take advantage of the healing power of foods.

The class series covers a variety of cancer-related nutrition topics and demonstrates how to prepare several meals loaded with antioxidants and phytochemicals, high fiber and low fat foods, and healthy dairy alternatives. The series also provides information on meal planning and  maintaining a healthy weight.

Free parking is available in the new garage located immediately in front of St Vincent’s Medical Center. Registration is required. Call the SWIM Support and Resource Line at 203-576-6158 or email tmclaugh@stvincents.org to register.
