Jane L. McCarthy, 84, of Ridgefield Crossings, Ridgefield, wife of the late John J. McCarthy, died at Danbury Hospital on May 29.
She was born in Cohoes, N.Y., February 10, 1919, daughter of the late Clarence T. and Leona (Baker) Wright.
Jane is survived by a son, Robert J. McCarthy and his wife, Carol, of New Milford; a daughter, Barbara OâConnor and her husband, Tim, of Newtown; a sister-in-law, Ruth L. McCarthy of Ridgefield, with whom she resided; grandchildren, Bronwyn McCarthy and Meghan McCarthy, Kathy Elliott and her husband, Don, Timothy OâConnor and his wife, Kimberly, Karen OâConnor and her fiancé, Steven Kravec; great-grandchildren, John Elliott, Brendan Elliott, and Grace OâConnor; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Jane was predeceased by four brothers, Harry Wright, Richard Wright, Joseph Wright, and Robert Wright.
She grew up in Cohoes and was a graduate of the College of St Rose in Albany, N.Y., where she was a member and award winner on the equestrian team. Mrs McCarthy moved to Weston in 1955 and resided there until she moved to Ridgefield in 1998. She had been a member of St Francis Church in Weston, Our Lady of Grace Church in Bantam, and St Mary Church in Ridgefield. She had been an active volunteer for many organizations including American Red Cross Blood Drives and FISH of Westport, and had been active with local Bible study groups for more than 40 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, on June 2. Burial followed in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Bantam.
The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, was in charge of arrangements.
