U10 Team Wins Tourney

Newtown’s U10 boys’ soccer team won the U10 soccer tournament at Tier One recently. Newtown won four of five games to win the championship.

Kevin Arther was the leading scorer with 7 goals in the tournament, and Cas Di Wit had 3 goals. Both players, along with Ryan Escoda and Michael Liberante, helped push the ball forward on offense creating many opportunities. In goal, Christopher Russo was stout.

In the second game, the team tied the score with 2 minutes left, sending the game into it went into penalty kicks. Russo saved a goal and scored another to help Newtown advance. On defense, Brian Manna ran sideline to sideline, shutting down the opposition.

Austin Smith locked down and prevented opposing team chances. Chad Azzarito was solid in goal, playing the final game and not allowing a goal. David Usher, Allen Xue, Thomas Majilinger, and Michael Arther played great overall games both on offense and defense.
