*The Webster has managed to land a great show for its ego this fall, when JOE STRUMMER visits the Hartford club on October 8. Strummer is probably best known as the former lead singer of THE CLASH. After that one disbanded, additional projects have included working as a radio host (âJoe Strummerâs London Callingâ), B-movie actor (Docteur Chance and Mystery Train), soundtrack collaborator (Pigs Might Fly, Grosse Point Blanke and five songs for Permanent Record and the title track from Sid & Nancy), and even a brief stint as lead singer for THE POGUES. Earlier this year Strummer went back into the studio with his latest supporting band, THE MESCALEROS, and on Tuesday the band released Global A Go-Go, its second album (behind Rock Art and The X-Ray Style, which came out in 1999). According to Epitaph Records, the title is in reference to the albumâs Caribbean, South American, African, Arabic, Balkan and Celtic influences. Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros are Strummer, Pablo Cook, Martin Slattery, Scott Shields, Tymon Dogg and associate member/engineer Richard Flack.
The band will doing a series of in-store appearances before launching a proper tour on August 4 at Los Angelesâ Greek Theatre. Two months later, Strummer and the band will be in Hartford.
*Tickets are still available for COLLECTIVE SOULâs August 8 show at Foxwoods in Ledyard. The band has an 8 pm concert scheduled that night, with seats available for $27.50 and $38.50. Details or reservations, call 800-200-2882.
Also on sale for Foxwoods (though I donât have prices handy, sorry) are tickets for STYX on August 31, ERYKAH BADU on September 1and RED SPEEDWAGON on September 7.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you⦠on the road.
