Berthold John “Bert” Fendt, Jr, 61, of Newtown, died March 23 in Danbury Hospital after a difficult battle with Sarcoidosis of the lungs. He was born in Philadelphia on November 26, 1946, a son of Berthold J. and Teresa (Hassler) Fendt.

Mr Fendt graduated from Campbellsville University in Kentucky and returned to his home state after meeting his wife and soul mate, Miriam “Mimi” Hancock. They were married in Chalfont, Penn., in 1972. They owned a jewelry wholesale business and raised their children, Jennifer and Christopher, in Lansdale, Penn. The family moved to Newtown in 1995, and Mr Fendt worked as a website administrator until his passing.

Early in his life he played trumpet, was involved with Boy Scouts of America, and worked as a director and set designer for various theatrical productions. Since his move to Newtown, he enjoyed reading, music, and especially movies, and was a devout Catholic.

Mr Fendt is survived by his wife, Mimi, of Newtown; daughter, Jennifer of Cornwall, N.Y.; and son, Christopher of Lowell, Mass. He is also survived by two sisters, Carol Kile and her husband, Dick, and their children, Jeffrey and Devon of Los Alamitos, Calif., and Cindy Dembrosky and her husband, David, and their children, Danielle and Caralyn of Souderton, Penn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Church of St Mary, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, Saturday, March 29, at 11 am. Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Friday, March 28, from 5 to 8 pm.

In lieu flowers, contributions to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford CT 06108, would be appreciated.
