Positive Parenting
The first PP Program is on-going. Positive Parenting is geared for parents of pre-school and elementary school children. For planning purposes Welcome to the Teen Zone, for parents of middle and high school students, will begin on January 18. PP will travel. Two courses are already scheduled in private homes. Fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple.
New to NYSâ Parenting Programs this fall will be a course for parents of special needs children. This series has also begun. Additional fall dates are October 17, November 7, 28, and December 5 and 19. The fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple. This includes all materials and applies for the whole year, as this is an on-going program. All are welcome at any time.
It is necessary to pre-register for all parenting courses.
Our Parenting Programs are a great way to meet people who may be dealing with many of the same issues. Fathersâ Night
This popular series, with Jeff Steinberg, continues on Monday, October 16, at 7:30 pm. Please call to register.
Sockoâs Haunted Yard
This popular event will be run on October 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31. Times are 6:30 to 10:30 pm and location is behind the Botsford Fire Dept.
3rd Annual Parent _University
â2001 â A Parent Odysseyâ (a crash course in child development) will be held on Saturday, November 4, at Newtown High School, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Babysitting is provided at no cost. For further information or to register for this popular event, please call NYS at 270-4335.
Entertainment Books

Positions Wanted: _Volunteers
If youâre looking for a way to help out in the community, look no further. Newtown Youth Services is always in need of an extra pair of hands. If you would be interested in serving on the Board of Directors, helping with mailings, stuffing envelopes, delivering monthly newsletters, or any of the varied possibilities, please call the office for further information.
Mind, Body, Spirit
NYS welcomes Master C.H. Châen for a series of free classes in traditional Chinese arts and exercises. Classes meet on Mondays, 4-5 pm at Youth Services. Students may join at any time.
4-H Clubs â On-Going
Fourth and Fifth grades will meet on Monday afternoons from 3:15 to 4:30. Middle school grades will meet on Wednesdays, from 4 to 5:15. Both groups will meet at NYS. Membership is free but space is limited. For additional information or to register, please call the office.
Youth Group Meetings
The High School Youth Advisory Board (HS YAB) will meet on Wednesday, October 18, after school, in the HS lobby to discuss their Halloween Fair which is Saturday, October 28, from 12 to 3.
Middle School Youth _Advisory Board (MS YAB)
Next meeting date is subject to activities chosen by members. Various methods will be employed to contact the YAB, e-mail and phone chains will be put into effect shortly. It is important to please check this column, the bulletin board in MS café, and one at St Rose for confirmation or meeting dates. Meeting days vary in order to give more students an opportunity to participate and to accommodate their various activities. Breakfast meetings will also be held. Snacks will be provided at all meetings.
NYCAAP
Will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, October 24, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
Membership in the above groups is free and new members are welcome at all times. For additional info please call the NYS office.
