Four Charges

Police arrested a boy under age 18 on four criminal charges about 10:45 pm August 19 on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with The Old Road.

Police said they stopped a vehicle traveling in that area because it did not have a front marker plate, as is required by law. Consequently, police said they verbally warned the unidentified driver of the vehicle about the need to have a front marker plate.

On investigating with their police dog, police found that a back seat passenger in the vehicle was in violation of four laws. Police charged that boy who is under age 18 with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of alcohol by a minor, possession of narcotics, and possession of tobacco by a minor.

After arrest processing, police released the boy on a written promise to appear on August 30 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Police did not disclose the youth’s name, as state law shields the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with such crimes. Police noted that the youth has a previous arrest record.

Marijuana/Tobacco

Police report that on August 20, they arrested a youth under age 18 on a warrant charging him/her with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of tobacco by a minor. Those charges stem from a July 17 incident.

Police processed the arrest and then released the youth on a written promise to appear in Danbury Youthful Offender Court on August 30. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with such crimes.

Vehicular Charges

According to police, motorist Nicole Chapman, 19, of New Milford, was spotted driving away from the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 in a vehicle that had no front marker plate, so they stopped her at about 2:45 pm on August 17.

After investigating, police charged Chapman with driving a vehicle without a front marker plate, driving with a suspended license, and with failure to return a suspended license to the state.

Police released Chapman on $500 bail for an August 31 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Larceny

Police report they received a call about 2:45 pm August 22, reporting a theft having occurred at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 5 Queen Street, so they went there to investigate.

Following an investigation, police said they charged Sarah Yacovelli, 50, of 43 Riverside Road with sixth-degree larceny. Police released her on a written promise to appear in court on September 14.

DUI Arrest

Police said that based on a complaint about an erratic driver traveling on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Wasserman Way at about 1 pm on August 21, they went to the area.

After an investigation, police charged motorist Ryan Gould, 27, of Meriden with driving under the influence. After processing, police released Gould on $250 bail for a September 8 court appearance.

 

Truck Vs Sedan

At about 8:40 am on August 19, motorist Carolee Mason, 51, of 50 Deep Brook Road, who was driving a town-owned 2010 Ford pickup truck, was exiting a parking space in the parking lot behind Town Hall South at 3 Main Street, when the Ford struck a parked, unoccupied 2004 Kia sedan, police said. Police took no enforcement.

 

Blue Bicycle

On August 20, a blue 24-speed bicycle was found lying alongside Brushy Hill Road, police report. That street links Elm Drive to Hattertown Road. A gray bicycle helmet was attached to the bicycle’s handlebars. Police are holding the bike for safekeeping. To claim it, the owner should contact police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Queen Street

Motorist Edmund Smith, 51, of Danbury was driving a 2010 Chevrolet coupe northward on Queen Street about 6:13 pm August 14, when the vehicle struck some curbing near a commercial driveway at 5 Queen Street, according to police.

Smith was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook MVA

Police report a motor vehicle accident near 195 Walnut Tree Hill Road about 2:20 pm August 20. That address is just north of Walnut Tree Hill Road’s intersection with Bridge End Farm Lane.

At 195 Walnut Tree Hill Road, motorist Maximillian Baudisch, 19, of 8 Lone Oak Meadows Road, who was driving a 2005 Mazda sedan, was backing westward toward Walnut Tree Hill Road, as motorist Charles Mason, 53, of 50 Deep Brook Road was driving a 1991 Ford van northward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles then collided. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Baudisch a written warning for a vehicular backing violation.

Elm/South Main

Police report a two-vehicle accident at an intersection of South Main Street and Elm Drive about 1:50 pm August 19.

In that incident, motorist John Hoetjes, 40, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Pontiac coupe, was waiting at a traffic sign, police said. Motorist Daniel Clement, 18, of 2 Covered Bridge Road, who was driving a 1999 Subaru sedan, was waiting behind the Pontiac, police report.

The Subaru then rolled forward and struck the rear end of the Pontiac, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Clement a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Parking Lot

Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in a parking lot at 153 South Main Street about 2:15 pm July 28.

In an attempt to park a 2001 GMC station wagon, which was carrying five passengers, motorist Evelyn X. Zepeda-Baralona, 23, of Trumbull struck an unoccupied, parked 2010 Jeep station wagon, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Two Men Charged

Police responded to a report of a disabled motor vehicle near the intersection of South Main Street and Bryan Lane about 3:30 am August 22.

On arriving, police investigated and then charged motorist Nelson Diaz, 21, of Bridgeport with driving with a suspended license. Police released Diaz on bail for a September 8 court appearance.

Also, police learned that a passenger in the vehicle, Angel Gabriel, 20, of West Haven was wanted by Fairfield police on charges of second-degree failure to appear in court and driving with a suspended license. Police released Gabriel on bail for a September 8 court appearance.

Wet Conditions

About 11:38 am on August 22, motorist Darnell Randall, 48, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Kia Sorrento SUV on the Exit 9 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road and struck some rock ledge, state police said.

Randall was not injured. Police issued Randall a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Rainy Day

Motorist Rene Rodriguez-Ramos, 30, of Danbury was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 8:40 am August 22, when Rodriguez-Ramos encountered some stopped traffic the highway, after which the Ford spun around and struck a boulder along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Neither Rodriguez-Ramos nor a passenger were injured. Rodriguez-Ramos received an infraction for failure to drive  reasonable distance apart and for driving without a license, state police said.

 

Slippery Pavement

Motorist Tien Vo, 20, of Morris Plains, N.J., was driving a 2004 Honda Accord eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 8:12 am August 22, when while on the road’s left lane, the Honda went out of control, skidded onto the median, struck a tree along an embankment, and then spun across the road’s travel lanes, striking some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, according to state police.

Ambulance volunteers transported Vo to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, state police said. Vo received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Main Street DUI

After receiving a report on an erratic driver, police said they went to Main Street about 3 pm August 22, where they spotted the motorist in question, Manuel Ayavaca, 52, of Danbury, driving a Toyota SUV southward.

Police stopped the Toyota to investigate, after which they charged Ayavaca with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and driving without a license.

Police held Ayavaca on $400 bail for a court arraignment on the charges on August 23.

Truck Vs Deer

Police report that Jason Powell of 166 Mt Pleasant Road was driving a town-owned 2007 Ford pickup truck, which is used by the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, northward near 42 Gelding Hill Road about 8 pm August 23, when a deer ran out onto the road and collided with the truck.

The deer left the area before police arrived. Powell was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Burglary

Police report that sometime on or about August 18, someone forcibly entered a home on Head O’ Meadow Road, near its intersection with Sugar Lane, and stole numerous items from the premises. Police learned of the incident on the afternoon of August 19. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.

Berkshire Crash

Police report that a two-vehicle accident occurred about 11 am on August 21 near 42 Berkshire Road (Route 34).

Police said that motorist Salah Elgamal, 31, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Hyundai sedan northward on Berkshire Road, told them that he swerved in order to avoid colliding with a southbound noncontact vehicle that had entered the northbound lane.

Police added Elgamal told them that he overcorrected while making the maneuver and then entered the southbound lane, colliding head-on with southbound motorist Ronald Santiago, 50, of Danbury, who was driving a 1992 Buick coupe.

Ambulance volunteers transported Santiago to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the accident.

Police issued Elgamal an infraction for failure to drive to the right and for driving without a license.
