Gordon D. Holmes, 88, of Suffield, formerly of Enfield and Newtown, died August 10. Born September 17, 1921, in New Britain, he was the son of Elizabeth (Walkley) and Roger Holmes.
Mr Holmes is survived by his children, Margaret âPegâ Holmes of Hyannis, Mass., and Nancy Douton of Columbia, Conn.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His stepchildren and step- grandchildren will also miss him. He was predeceased by two wives, Margaret (Wells) Holmes and Patricia (Corcoran) Holmes; and his brother John Holmes.
A veteran of World War II, Mr Holmes proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the State of Connecticut as a clinical psychologist. He was a former member of the Newtown Lions Club and a life member of the Enfield Lions Club.
In his leisure time he enjoyed golf, bowling, and cheering the UConn Womenâs basketball team and his beloved Boston Red Sox. Most of all, Mr Holmes enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.
His family will receive relatives and friends at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, Friday evening, August 13, from 5 to 7 pm. There will also be a Gathering of Remembrance, Saturday, August 14, at 1:30 pm, at Suffield by the River, 7 Canal Road, Suffield. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
