The 30th Jimmy Fund Tournament will be starting next month and local fans are being asked to lend their support.

The Jimmy Fund Tournament benefits the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the number one cancer research facility in New England.

In the 30 years of the tournament, more than $540,00 has been raised.

Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball will be hosting the U14 Jimmy Fund Tournament. All spectactors will be asked to donate at least $1 at every game they attend.

So, go out and support the Jimmy Fund.

I don’t think you have ever played golf unless you’ve played it in the rain.

The rain adds a whole new dimension to a game that is already infuriating to begin with. Try holding on to those wet grips while attempting a shot out of the rough or try drilling a putt through pools of standing water on the green.

That’s challenging.

Last Sunday I had to play in the rain (yeah, had to).

It was drizzling when I woke up and the forecast was for more rain the rest of the day but I wasn’t staying home. A lot of people will agree me, I’m sure, about this – I’ve seen so much rain the past few months and if that was going to keep me off the golf course, I don’t think I’d ever get to play, so I’m going to play.

It wasn’t the worst weather I’ve ever played in.

That was years ago, in Rhode Island.

Eighteen holes in torrential rain.

Now that was brutal.

Speaking of golf ...

The CJGA is offering four-day camps for junior golfers ages 10-15 at Gainfield Farms GC in Southbury. Beginner, Novice, and Intermediate Junior boys and girls are welcome.

There will be two hours of instruction followed by nine holes of golf each day. A formal tournament will be conducted on the last day.

Lunch, refreshments and prizes are included. Camps begin on July 7, 14 and 21. For application/information contact the CJGA at 203-791-2411 or Gainfield Farms GC at 203-262-1100.

What has happened to Bruce Jenner?

I was flipping through the channels on Sunday and came across Animal Planet (Channel 57 on TeleMedia) and there was Bruce Jenner passing judgment on some really bad animal tricks.

Apparently, he is a regular on this show.

I didn’t think so. In case you were wondering, then, the Tampa Bay Storm defeated the Arizona Rattlers, 43-29.

Didn’t you just love all that conspiracy talk last week? That the New York Yankees rained out their game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays just to change to pitching rotation for the weekend series with the New York Mets?

I’ll tell you, there is never a dull moment when it comes to the Yankees. I mean, lately George Steinbrenner has been crawling all over the back of a manager who has taken his team to the playoffs for seven straight years with FOUR World Series championships.

Nope, never a dull moment.
