Help The Hospital Help Cats

A distressed, malnourished cat that was recently found along The Old Road is now receiving veterinary care at Mt Pleasant Hospital for Animals.

“It’s so thin, so thin, and the hair is matted, but the cat’s spirits are wonderful. The cat is sweet and friendly and wants to be petted,” Animal Control Officer Carolee Mason said Wednesday. She hopes the cat will soon be adopted, but it has to stay at the vet’s rather than the pound. “I hope someone will take it, feel sorry for it and adopt it,” she said. “She is a beautiful gray tiger.”

The female feline has an overactive thyroid and is “very thin and losing, but stable now,” said Rakesh Vali, DVM at the animal hospital. With the cat stabilized, he said she will need medication long-term. Also at the hospital is a diabetic cat awaiting adoption. The veterinary hospital, which often assists the dog pound, will keep the cats until they are welcomed into a resident’s home.

Ms Mason is also attempting to trap and rescue the second of two cats in a house where the elderly owner has moved out. The first orange long-haired cat is already out of the house and at the hospital. With the owner gone the caretaker wants the cats adopted to a better home, she said.
