Bernard M.     Meehan

Bernard M. Meehan, 71, of Newtown died January 23 in Danbury Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Dolores (Macari) Meehan.

Mr Meehan was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 19, 1933, a son of the late Bernard and Anna (Sturgis) Meehan.

Mr Meehan was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Marine Corps. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. A proud Marine, he lived with the philosophy of “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” Mr Meehan was self-employed in the real estate field in Newtown; however, he retired ten years ago due to ill health.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, Mr Meehan is survived by his three sons, Christopher Meehan and his wife Deanna of Newtown, Bernard Meehan, Jr, and his fiancé Robin Elletto of Roxbury, and Robert Meehan of Danbury; a beloved granddaughter, Vivian Meehan; a beloved cousin, Ellen Connellis; and his constant companion for the last eight years, Bingo, the dog.

Funeral services were held January 26 at the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, and at St Rose of Lima Church. Interment followed in Resurrection Cemetery.
