Still Hurt And Confused

About Teacher’s Departure

To the Editor:

I am a Newtown High School senior who has been involved in both the chorus and the drama under the direction of Sabrina Post. I have found Mrs Post to be one of the most respected, talented, and dedicated teachers that I have had throughout my years of schooling. It is for these reasons that I was quite shocked when I went to class on Tuesday, February 8, and she was not there and probably wouldn’t be there for the rest of the week. Now the weeks have turned into three and could very well turn into many if she will even come back at all.

After meeting with the principal and a couple of teachers who gave us little information about why Mrs Post was so quickly removed, I as well as my peers were extremely hurt, shocked, and confused as to what happened. Why is it that our beloved teacher may not come back?

Of course I am concerned about the musical, Show Boat, as it was anticipated to be a great follow-up to our production of Les Miserables, but I am also extremely upset and concerned about us losing our chorus teacher. I cannot understand what Mrs Post could have been accused of so that Mr Pitkoff could pull her out of our successful environment and leave us with no direction.

As a director, teacher, and advisor, I have never seen a teacher who worked so hard at what she did. Mrs Post could always be found at the school, always working hard but with a smile on her face nonetheless. She was the type of teacher who would be there for her students no matter how busy she was.

Why couldn’t Mr Pitkoff have addressed this after the end of the school year or while she was still teaching us. How could he destroy something that not only the students of NHS enjoyed so much but that had real impact on the whole community? Our hearts go out to Mrs Post as she is so greatly missed by everyone at the high school and we wish that she could return soon.
