Newtown’s Gaston Earns Honors With Gettysburg Soccer Team

GETTYSBURG, PENN. — Sophomore Tara Gaston, a graduate of Newtown High School, was recently named All-Centennial Conference First Team in her second year as a member of the Gettysburg College women’s soccer team.

As a defender, Gaston emerged as one of the stoutest defensive players in the Centennial Conference this season, starting all 20 matches and helping Gettysburg allow just 22 goals in 20 contests (1.1 goals per game). The Bullet defense pitched eight shutouts this season, including six against conference competition.

Gaston is a two-year starter in the Bullet backfield and has appeared in all but one match over the last two seasons.

Despite playing one of the most difficult nonconference schedules across NCAA Division III, Gettysburg advanced to the postseason following a 6-4 record in the Centennial Conference. As the fifth seed in the league tournament, the Bullets upended Haverford 1-0 in the opening round before having their run halted by eventual champion Johns Hopkins 2-0 in the semifinals.

Tara, who is a biology major, is the daughter of Jim and Stephanie Gaston of Main Street, Newtown.
