Peruvian-Inspired Art, Family Portraits To Warm Galleries At The Aldrich

RIDGEFIELD — Not able to head south for the winter? Artist Jennifer Zackin will bring South America to Ridgefield with her Peruvian-inspired exhibition. The Aldrich will open Ms Zackin’s solo exhibition “Killamanta Kutimusaq (To the Moon and Back),” as well as “Catherine Opie: 1999 & In and Around Home” on Sunday, January 22, from 3 to 6 pm.

Inspired by her excursions to South America and her relationship with native Peruvians, Jennifer Zackin’s exhibition will include sculpture, collage and video. The works will remain on view until June 18.

In 2004, an independent jury of gallerists, curators and collectors selected the Los Angeles-based photographer Catherine Opie as the recipient of The Larry Aldrich Award.

Ms Opie’s tender portraits of her family, as well as sweeping landscapes of her 1999 road trip, give a unique perspective on life in contemporary America, at once intimate and universal.

Ms Opie will lead a tour through her Aldrich exhibition at 2 pm on January 25 (one hour before the formal opening reception). Her collection will remain on view until May 14.

The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum can be reached at 203-438-4519.
