Garner Inmate Arrested on Assault Charge

State police report that at 9:20 am on December 21, they were called to Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road, to investigate an incident.

State police said their investigation showed that Garner inmate Antonio Ruiz, 24, spat on a male correction officer who was in the process of securing Ruiz in his cell. The saliva landed on the correction officer’s shirt, according to state police.

Ruiz was consequently arrested on a charge of assault on a public safety officer. He additionally was charged with refusal to submit to fingerprinting. Ruiz was slated for arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Ruiz is serving a 19½ -year sentence in Garner on a conviction for first-degree assault.
