The Community Came Through
The Community Came Through
To the Editor:
The United States Marine Corps Reserve Detachment of Ridgefield cordially thanks the Newtown community for its 2010 contributions to the Toys For Tots program. It seems that each year the members of the community extend their hands further and further to give to the less fortunate children.
There are ten collection sites in town at which we placed the collection boxes, banners, and posters, and in the short time of the program, the boxes were filled to capacity and then some. The following groups deserve a heartfelt thanks for their space and volunteerism in this annual project. They are: Coldwell Banker, Prudential Connecticut Realty, Dr Joshua E. Baum â Orthodontic Specialist, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Society Of Plastics Engineers, Childrenâs Adventure Center, Newtown Police Department, Newtown Youth Academy, Panera Bread, and Misty Morning Early Learning Center and Child Care.
The toys were then delivered to the Ridgefield headquarters, where Henry Norley and his team of volunteers distributed them in snowy, rainy, sunny, or cloudy weather. It is a massive undertaking and the US Marines are ever so grateful. So am I.
Sincerely,
Mike Hurley, USMCR
