Making The Most Of A Snowy Day

Amid the knee-deep snow and heavy drifts smoothing the landscape beginning Sunday, December 26, and accumulating through Monday, December 27, residents found fun in the approximate foot of snow.

Rushing down the hillside on slick sleds and tubes were parents, children, and friends at Treadwell Park. Traveling rapidly down compressed snow was Zoe Beals, a fifth-grader enjoying the afternoon. Bright sunlight found sisters Sofia and Olivia Doersch squinting where they were perched at the top of the slope, waiting for their run down the hillside. Also watching for a clear course downhill was Nick Venezia, about to maneuver his snow boogie board to the bottom.

Packing heaped snow into a ramp below Nick were Garrett Marino and Nick’s brother Chris. Nearby and aiming for another jump that jutted from the hill’s flattened surface was Nick Samuelson, bursting through a spray of snow as he lifted off a jump. Below him, Craig Doersch carried daughter Olivia on his shoulders.

At a distance from the sledders — some gliding smoothly to a safe stop, while others bumped or collided on an unruly course — friends Lindsay Skalkos and Annie Hoffman watched the winter tableau.
