Snapshot: Jeff Tousignant
Occupation: I work for NYA Sports & Fitness Center, as program director. I've been there for about three years.
Family: I'm married to Jennifer, and we have two boys and a girl. Andrew is 19, and a freshman at Parson's School of Design; Ethan is 15 and at Fairfield Prep; and Caroline is 12, and at Newtown Middle School.
Pets: Not anymore. We just had to put down our dog, Jackson. But we had a good run. He was 18 years old.
How long have you lived here? We've been in Newtown since 1995. Then we moved to Dallas, but rented out our house, and moved back in 2001. We've been here ever since.
What do you like to do in your free time? I do a lot of skiing and hiking. I do like to listen to music. My free time in the spring is occupied by lacrosse. I've been involved for ten years with the Newtown Youth Lacrosse. I'm also a volunteer assistant lacrosse coach at Newtown High School. Ethan plays lacrosse at Fairfield Prep, and Caroline plays for Newtown Youth Lacrosse. She's a cheerleader, too, so in autumn we spend time popping around to the games she cheers for. Luckily, most are at Taylor Field behind Hawley School.
What music are you listening to these days? Nathaniel Rateliff, and that genre, which I guess is kind of bluesy rock. But I like Widespread Panic, and the Foo Fighters is probably my favorite band.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? We go to Vermont, probably every weekend in the winter. We have a place at Stratton Mountain. I like being outdoors, even in the winter. Occasionally, we go to Hawaii, where my sister-in-law lives.
What is the best thing about Newtown? For us, it's the people. Everybody is nice, warm, welcoming, and friendly. People aren't guarded here. There's less hustle and bustle than lower Fairfield County, where we lived before. Newtown has this quaintness about it.
Who has been the greatest influence in your life? Probably my father was most influential in my life. He always worked hard, but made time for the family, even at his own sacrifice - like getting up at 4 am to work, so he could be home and be with us later. He gave me a good example of how to live my life.
If you could have one wish, what would it be? A simpler life for me and my family. A life with less complications, less roadblocks. A life that would get more stress out, and let less stress in.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? It's skiing. That's where my time and energy is spent in the winter. Without that, I'd be a miserable person.
