Newtown police said they have charged a Danbury man with third-degree robbery and second-degree larceny in connection with an April 3 purse snatching at Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street.
Police said the man is the suspect in a string of similar incidents that happened in Danbury, Brookfield, and Bridgeport in recent days.
Newtown police said they charged Geoffrey Cypher, 25, of 79 Park Avenue, Danbury, on April 6 on an arrest warrant at Danbury Superior Court. The charges stem from an incident on the evening of April 3 in which Cypher allegedly stole a purse from a woman shopper at the TJ Maxx store at Sand Hill Plaza, after which he ran out of the store. The unidentified woman was uninjured. The purse was later found in the parking lot.
Newtown police said they are seeking a warrant for Cypherâs arrest in connection with another purse snatching at the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza on the evening of April 3.
