Do you have a problem horse? Or do you simply want to better educate yourself and your mount on all things equestrian? Then join Dan James, an internationally renowned horse trainer and clinician, at workshops to be held at The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG), November 8-11. The workshops will be held at the Horse Guard’s grounds, 4 Wildlife Drive within Fairfield Hills.

James, of Double Dan Horsemanship, specializes in liberty work. He was featured in National Geographic channel’s show Mustang Millionaire, where horse trainers are given only four months to tame a wild mustang and turn it into a show horse. He placed in third and he was the winner of the world championship freestyle reining competition in Kentucky and he is bringing his experience and training techniques to Newtown.

The Second Horse Guard will host a Ground Control clinic, aimed at improving the relationship between horses and handlers from the ground, Saturdasy and Sunday, November 8 and 9, from 9 am to 4 pm.

A Body Control Basics Under Saddle clinic, to help elevate riders’ techniques to achieve a supple, more willing horse, will follow on Monday and Tuesday, November 10-11, also from 9 am to 4 pm.

The clinic fee is $450 for two days. Registration can be done by contacting Jennifer Mazzara at 203-241-3461 or JenniferMazzara@aol.com. Auditing is also available for $20 per day.

In addition, a public performance will be held at 6:30 pm on Saturday, November 8. Admission is $20. The program will feature horses riding free of tack, displaying the ultimate relationship between man and handler.

Chartered in 1808, The 2GHG is one of the oldest active cavalry units in the United States. An all-volunteer state militia unit, it serves the governor and the State of Connecticut at the direction of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
