Saturday Afternoon Walk
Saturday Afternoon Walk
On Saturday, October 20, Newtown Forest Association board member Dr Aaron Coopersmith will lead a guided tour of the associationâs property at 55 Great Hill Road beginning at 1 pm. He will also discuss the meadows, history of the property, fall foliage, and identification of birds, if available.
An 86-acre parcel, Holcombe Hill Wildlife Preserve is situated on the southerly side of Great Hill Road and was donated to NFA in 1997 through the estate of Josephine Holcombe. The property boasts an elevation of 830 feet above sea level, it is the highest point in town, and affords spectacular views of three counties from the 30 acres of hay fields on the property. The buildings on the property are now occupied by NFA offices, maintenance equipment and a caretaker.
Saturdayâs walk will be cancelled in the event of hard rain.
