Commemorative Exhibition At The Bruce Museum—

September 11 Remembered: Special Short-Term Exhibition

GREENWICH — For two weeks only, Bruce Museum of Arts and Science will present a special exhibition, “September 11 Remembered,” in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

From August 31 until September 11, two works – a monumental multimedia piece entitled “The Face of September 11th” by Darryl Pottorf and an ink-jet print by Robert Rauschenberg – will be on display in the museum’s Bantle Lecture Gallery. Admission to visit the gallery will be free during the exhibition.

Mr Pottorf’s “The Face of September 11th” is a photo-transfer measuring 7 feet high by 15 feet wide, based on images of 9/11 that commemorate the heroism, valor and poignant loss of that day. Completed in 2001, it was executed in UV watercolor on polylaminate.

Mr Pottorf is a visual artist who has experience as a practicing architect and theater designer. He has worked extensively with Mr Rauschenberg.

Mr Pottorf has exhibited at Gagosian Gallery in New York, Basel Art Fair in Switzerland, Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles, and Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, among other venues.

Also on display will be “I Love New York,” 2001, by Mr Rauschenberg. One of the most eminent artists of his generation, Mr Rauschenberg donated sales of the print edition to benefit the families of those who died in the attacks. The ink-jet print combines images of The Statue of Liberty and The Twin Towers in Mr Rauschenberg’s assemblage technique.

The Bruce Museum of Arts and Science, 1 Museum Drive, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. For information, call 203-869-0376.
