Reaching Out

In addition to their full concert of February 13, three members of Walden Chamber Players paid a visit to Masonicare at Newtown on Monday morning and surprised the residents there with a short Valentine’s Day concert of string trio music by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The attentive and appreciative audience enjoyed listening to the four last movements of Beethoven’s “Serenade” in D, which featured a lively Scherzo, the Allegretto alla Polacca, (practically dance music) the Andante quasi Allegretto, and the Final March.  All four movements received enthusiastic applause.

Mr Macomber, Ms Scripp and Mr Huebner made this special concert possible by agreeing to perform at the Toddy Hill Road home after it became evident that a previously contracted school outreach program could not take place.

The Walden Chamber Players had originally been scheduled to present a School Outreach Program at Reed Intermediate School on February 14, but with all the many snow days, delayed openings and early closings this winter season, it was deemed unwise to further interrupt the children’s schedule.

Sue Sonnati, recreation director at Masonicare, coordinated the effort with Ellen Parrella, president of Newtown Friends of Music.
