The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host a watercolor demonstration during its next program on Wednesday, January 25, at 1:30 pm. Diane Dubreuil of New Milford will demonstrate landscape painting with transparent watercolors and describe her experiences as a plein air watercolorist.

The program will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street. Admission is free.

Having retired from more than 30 years as a commercial artist and art director, Ms Dubreuil is gaining attention as a plein air artist choosing the seemingly uncontrollable medium of transparent watercolor for most of her work. She has participated in several plein air events regionally over the last several years including PACE, a national plein air conference and expo.

Ms Dubreuil is a signature member of the International Plein Air Painters Worldwide, a signature member of New England Watercolor Society, a member of CT Plein Air Painters, and participates in several other regional arts organizations. She is currently chair of New Milford Commission on the Arts.

Ms Dubreuil's landscape demo for SCAN will provide an opportunity for new and experienced artists to reflect on the qualities of watercolor as a medium while discussing the power of art as a device for communication. Beginning Tuesday, March 21, Ms Dubreuil will offer a series of six watercolor classes for the artist's group.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information about the group and its programs is available at scanart.org or 203-426-6654.
