Samantha Pearce was named on the fall 2010-2011 semester's Dean's List at State University of New York College at Cortland. Samantha is a community health major with a concentration in allied health with a biology minor.

Samantha Pearce was named on the fall 2010-2011 semester’s Dean’s List at State University of New York College at Cortland. Samantha is a community health major with a concentration in allied health with a biology minor.

Kevin Carney, son of Chris and Jeanne Carney of Sandy Hook, was named to the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of his freshman year at St John’s University, Queens, N.Y. Kevin is a finance major at the university.

Elise Patricia DeRoo, a member of the Class of 2012 at Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., has been named a Dana Scholar in recognition of superior academic achievement as well as demonstrated leadership in the campus community. Elise is the daughter of Linda S. DeRoo and Donald J. DeRoo of Newtown. Colgate’s Charles A. Dana Scholars are selected during their sophomore, junior, or senior years in recognition of superior academic achievement as well as demonstrated leadership in the college community. In terms of academic prestige, the Dana award, established in 1965 by Charles A. Dana, a legislator and businessman from New York State, is considered to be second only to Phi Beta Kappa.

Local residents were named to the High Honor Roll for the winter term at Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor. Those students are Francis Afriyie,  Robert Carroll, Shannon Deveney, and Jocelyn Toll. The Loomis Chaffee School is a college preparatory school for grades 9 through 12.

Fairfield University announced that the following local residents have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall  semester: Michelle Brennan of Sandy Hook, Ryan Daly, Christina Ercole, Emily Fiorey, Molly Murtha, and Katherine Volkers.

The following students have received recognition on the President’s Honor Roll at St Joseph High School, Trumbull, for the second marking period at the school: Kiersten Lynch, Jessica Jowdy, Mary Meier, and Nicole Nonnenmacher. The following students received the Principal’s Honor for the second marking period at the school: Connor Gallagher, Tara Dawley, Daniel Gallagher, John Imbimbo, and Kelly Brooks.
