The Hubbard family of Sandy Hook, whose daughter and sister Catherine Violet Hubbard was killed on 12/14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School, presented the ASPCA's Dog of the Year Award for 2016 to specially trained service dog Ruthie, on Thursday, November 17, in New York City.

Ruthie and her handlers are part of Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) and have visited the sites of more than 20 tragedies around the country.

The golden retriever helped bring comfort and affection to students at Sandy Hook School in their time of need.
