Road Work Planned On I-84 In Newtown
NEWINGTON â State Transportation Commissioner James F. Sullivan announced that bids will be opened on Wednesday, November 21, for an improvement project on a section of I-84 in Newtown, Southbury, and Middlebury.
Officials of the departmentâs contract division will begin the bid opening at 2 pm in Conference Room âBâ of the Transportation Department Administration Building, 2800 Berlin Turnpike.
Bids will be received for resurfacing, bridge repairs, and safety improvements on an eight-mile section of I-84 eastbound and westbound from the bridges over the Housatonic River in Newtown east to Long Meadow Road in Middlebury. In addition to the paving, roadway widening will be done to provide standard shoulders adjacent to the climbing lanes, and widened acceleration lanes will be provided on the westbound on-ramps at Exits 14 and 16 and the eastbound on-ramp at Exit 14. The existing illumination will also be replaced at the Route 6/67 interchange.
This project is scheduled to be completed in 2003.
