Lead Exposure And Test Scores

HARTFORD (AP) — A new study says many Connecticut students who have been exposed to lead in paint, soil, and elsewhere are performing poorly on standardized tests compared to their peers.

The Duke University analysis also found that many young black children’s blood tests showed more lead exposure than their white counterparts, and educators worry it could be hindering efforts to close the achievement gap between the races.

The Duke study involved 35,000 Connecticut students who were screened for lead exposure before age 7.
