Hopkins School, an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school in New Haven for seventh through twelfth grade, recognized outstanding students from the area at its annual Prize Day assembly held on June. Laura Paik, a twelfth grade student from Newtown, earned the Paul W. Schueler Prize for visual arts, which is awarded to a student who has shown excellence in the visual arts, who has experimented in a variety of media, and whose interest in the arts extends beyond the classroom. Laura also earned the Helen Hope Barton Prize for Excellence in English.
In Villanova, Penn., John Nelson of Newtown was named to the Deanâs List for the spring semester in Villanova Universityâs College of Engineering. To qualify for the Deanâs List in the College of Engineering, a matriculated full-time student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.25. Also at Villanova University, Mary George of Newtown and Kyle Hufziger of Sandy Hook were named to the Deanâs List in Villanova Universityâs College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the spring semester. To qualify, a matriculated full-time student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5.
Newtown residents Jessica Halloran and Lindsay Rosentrater earned recognition on Deanâs List at the Savannah (Ga.) College of Art and Design. Jessica is working at on bachelor of fine arts degree in illustration and Lindsay is working on a bachelor of arts degree in equestrian studies. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the collegeâs Deanâs List.
