Ruth E. (Berglund) Burr, 79, of Brookfield, loving and devoted wife of almost 60 years to Donald Chase Burr, died peacefully at home, July 24. She was born April 1, 1932, in Sandy Hook, daughter of Effie (Orcutt) and Harry George Berglund.
She graduated from Hawley High School in 1950 and attended Becker Junior College. She started her professional life as a public servant for the town of Brookfield, as an assistant town clerk from 1963 to 1977. Mrs Burr then served as a highly respected town clerk from 1978 to 1998, when she retired.
The Burrs raised their three children in Brookfield and have lived there for 60 years. She cherished her family and spent as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mrs Burr was a longstanding member of the First Congregational Church of Brookfield and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Brookfield Fire Department. Her hobbies included water aerobics at the YMCA, gardening, and knitting. She enjoyed a lifetime of traveling with her husband. They camped, and traveled abroad, as well as around the country.
Along with her husband, Mrs Burr is survived by three sisters, including Edith Tenney of Sandy Hook, a brother, three children, 13 grandchildren, and three great-granddaughters. One brother predeceased Mrs Burr.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, July 30, at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, Route 25, Brookfield.
