Jean McManus Matson Daly

Jean McManus Matson Daly died on July 19 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Fort Pierce, Fla.

She is survived by her husband J. Gordon Daly of Delray Beach, Fla; her beloved children, Carole Matson Ross and her husband, Bill, of Newtown, and their children Jane, Sally Maurer (husband Ryan), and Brian, Ernest A. Matson III and wife, Maureen, and his children Aja and Skyler of Talofofo, Guam, Barbara Jean Matson McSweeney and husband, A. Patrick, and their children Lindsey, Ryan, and Christopher, Fort Pierce, Lewis Alan Matson and wife, Carol, Port Charlotte, Fla., and his sons Aaron and Galen, Robert Carroll Matson and wife, Cheryl, and their daughters, Julie, Elaine, and Donna, Mt Home, Idaho, and Peter Harold Matson and wife, Jane, and their sons Jack and Nicholas, Alexandria, Va.; and her sister Carol Farlow Moore of Vero Beach, Fla.

Mrs Daly was a member of the Class of ’42 of Rutherford High School, Rutherford, N.J. She became interested in history and genealogy and is founding regent of the Devil’s Den Chapter of the Daughters in the American Revolution, and past member of the Jonathan Dickinson Chapter in Delray Beach, Fla. She was Registrar of Voters for the Town of Weston and on the board of directors for the Weston Historical Society. As a researcher she provided the data for the history of the town from 1640 to 1800.

Mrs Daly was a member of St Paul’s Episcopal Churches in Darien and Delray Beach. She was a member of the Daughters of the King in Delray Beach. Cummings and Lockwood (law firm) employed her in Stamford before she moved to Florida in 1983. Jean received the Palm Beach County School District Mentor of the Year Award.

The funeral will be Saturday, August 6, at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, Darien. Interment will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport.

In memory of Mrs Daly, donations may be made to the Indian River Community College Foundation, Jean McManus Nursing Scholarship, 3209 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce FL 34981.
