Dodgingtown DUI

Police said they received a complaint about a motorist’s driving on Dodgingtown Road about 8 pm July 21 and went to the area to investigate.

Police said they encountered motorist Mary Crough Smith, 46, of 129 Taunton Hill Road at Dodgingtown Market and had her perform field sobriety tests, which she allegedly failed.

Police said they then charged Smith with driving under the influence. Police said they released Smith for an August 5 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Ford Into Rock

Motorist Sarah Orlando, 18, of 7 Lazybrook Road was driving a 1998 Ford Escort sedan southward on Huntingtown Rd about 10:49 am July 7, when while rounding a curve, a tire blew out after striking a rock alongside the road, police said. Orlando was not injured. Police said the accident is under investigation.

Hanover Deer

Motorist Carmen Martens, 36, of 193 Hanover Road was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, carrying two passengers, northward on Hanover Road at about 3:09 pm July 14, when a deer entered the road, resulting in a collision, police said. There were no injuries or enforcement actions, police said.

 

Peterbilt Vs Toyota

Motorist Janet Ciasullo, 42, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Solara westward on Wasserman Way about 8:10 am July 17, stopped at a red traffic signal at Wasserman Way’s intersection with South Main Street, according to police.

A westbound 2000 Peterbilt truck driven by Michael Hurd, 25, of Pomfret, then stopped behind the Toyota, police said.

The Toyota then started to turn right onto northbound South Main St, but stopped due to traffic, police said. The Peterbilt then struck the rear end of the Toyota.

There were no injuries. Police issued Hurd a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Route 302 MVA

Motorist Mallory Berko, 17, of 44 Great Ring Road was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus eastward on Route 302 about 9 am July 21, and then slowed for traffic, police said. Eastbound motorist Michael Palumbo, 26, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler then struck the rear end of the Ford, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Palumbo a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Dog Offense

Police report that John Capozziello, Jr, 52, of 35 Philo Curtis Road turned himself over to police at the police station on the evening of July 22, after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest.

Police charged Capozziello with failure to respond to an infraction and with allowing a dog to roam.

Police said that Capozziello was issued an infraction ticket on April 22 for allowing his dog to roam, but did not respond to that ticket. Police therefore obtained an arrest warrant and took Capozziello into custody on July 22.

After posting a $92 bond, police released Capozziello for an August 5 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Monte Carlo

Motorist Sean LaPorta, 17, of 34 Lake Road was driving eastward on Castle Hill Road, near King Street, about 5:38 pm July 23, and while negotiating a curve to the right, he lost control of the 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo he was driving, causing the vehicle to go into a spin, police said. LaPorta was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Great Hill Road

Motorist Lucy Ann Doorly, 53, of Bethel was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi sedan eastward on Great Hill Road on July 22, when a deer ran out onto the road into the auto’s path, police said. The auto and the deer collided. Doorly was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Honda Collision

Motorist Fikri Dalipi, 70, of 2 Misty Vale Road, who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic westward on Mile Hill Road about 4 pm July 23, lost control of the auto and skidded onto the westbound road shoulder, striking a tree, police said. Dalipi was not injured. Police issued Dalipi a written warning for making an improper turn.

Truck Accident

Police report that motorist Ian Lavinier of St Louis, Mo,, was driving a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck southward on Bonnie Brae Road about 2 pm July 14, when while making a turn, he crossed into the opposite lane, swerved back into his lane, and then lost control of the vehicle, went off the right side of the street and struck two posts and a tree.

Lavinier was not injured, according to police. Police issued Lavinier a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Driving Mishap

Motorist Kevin Miller, 24, of 21 Indian Hill Lane, who was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck, was traveling eastward on Great Hill Road and then stopped at its intersection with Taunton Hill Road at about 10:30 pm July 22, police said.

As Miller drove the Ford into the intersection, an unidentified vehicle that was traveling southward on Taunton Hill Road entered the intersection at the same time, police said. Miller then swerved the Ford to the right and struck some curbing, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Nissan Struck

Motorist Niranjar Kabasia, 46, of Washingtonville, N.Y., was driving a 1996 Nissan sedan southward on South Main Street and then stopped at a red traffic signal at its intersection with Sugar Street about 8:11 am July 18, police said.

A black van, which was driven by a white male, struck the Nissan from behind and then fled the scene, traveling onto Glover Avenue, police said. There were no injuries. Police are investigating.

Ford Vs Audi

Motorist Arthur Brainard, 56, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck westward on Route 34, stopped at a red traffic signal at that road’s intersection with Wasserman Way about 5:45 pm July 13, police said.

Because Brainard had entered the intersection, he backed up, but in backing up he struck motorist Glenn Takach, 58, of Middlebury, who was driving a 1997 Audi A-4, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Brainard for unsafe backing.

Chevrolet Vs Lexus

Police report an accident involving two sport-utility vehicles on westbound Church Hill Road about 5:07 pm July 23.

Motorist Nancy Duhamel, 56, of 14 Crestwood Drive, who was driving a 2004 Lexus RX-330, stopped for traffic and was struck from behind by motorist Rita Pavia-Loomis, 32, of 43 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Pavia-Loomis an infraction ticket on charges of following too closely and failure to renew a driver’s license.

Key Rock Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 7 pm July 23 at the intersection of Key Rock Road and Route 302. The collision involved Robert Clark, 37, of 68 Mile Hill Road South, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord sedan, and Anne Walder, 30, of 4 Valley Field Road, who was driving a 2002 Saturn L-300 sedan, police said. There were no injuries, according to police.

I-84 DUI

State police report that at about 12:07 am July 25, they saw motorist Philippe L. Plante, 65, of Easton, driving erratically on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, so they stopped him to investigate. State police said they charged Plante with driving under the influence, speeding for traveling 80 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone, failure to drive in the established lane, and failure to carry a valid automotive insurance identification card.

State police released Plante on $500 bail for an August 2 court appearance.

Auto Vandalism

Sometime between 6 am and 5:15 pm on July 21, someone broke a window in a Danbury woman’s vehicle that was parked unattended in Interstate 84’s Exit 11 commuter parking lot on Wasserman Way, state police said. State police are investigating.

Interstate Rollover

A rollover accident on Interstate 84 during the beginning of the evening rush period on July 23 caused extended travel delays.

Motorist Denise Boccuzzi, 38, of Southbury was driving a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder eastward on I-84, west of Exit 10, about 3:41 pm July 23, when Boccuzzi slowed for traffic, state police said. The Nissan slid off the road’s left shoulder and rolled over onto its roof, state police said.

Boccuzzi was not injured. State police said they issued her a warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

Three Vehicles

State police report a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident on eastbound Interstate 84, about one mile west of Exit 10, about 7:30 pm July 23.

State police said motorist Jerry Cornelius, 43, of Ozark, Mo., who was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 1999 Chrysler Concorde driven by Thomas Chacho, 40, of Lindley, N.Y., pushing the Chrysler into the rear end of a 2004 Honda sedan driven by Matthew Nelson, 24, of Alexandria, Va. There were no injuries. State police said Cornelius was following too closely.

Mt Pleasant Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 8:30 am July 21 near 14 Mt Pleasant Road, where two northbound lanes merge at the crest of a hill.

Police said a northbound 1993 Toyota Camry driven by Sandhya Tedla, 36, of 6 Abbey Lane, made contact with a northbound tractor-trailer truck driven by Patrick Barry, 31, of Fairfield. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Tedla a written warning for improper passing.

Vandalism

Police report they charged three people with vandalism offenses involving damage to residential mailboxes on the night of July 25.

Police said they received a complaint from a Cobblers Mill Road area resident concerning people traveling in a vehicle who were using a baseball bat to damage mailboxes.

After an investigation, police said they charged motorist Trina L. Ramsdell, 18, of 16 Pond Brook Road with criminal mischief, breach of peace, possession of marijuana, and driving under the influence. Police said they lodged the DUI charge under the strict “zero tolerance” provisions in effect for people under age 21.

Police said they charged vehicle passengers Mary E. Spaulding, 20, of Bethel, and Amel J. Samuels, 21, of 128 Hanover Road, each with criminal mischief and breach of peace.

Police said all three were released from custody on promises to appear August 18 in Danbury Superior Court.

Weapon Charge

After investigating a complaint, police said they charged Jonathan Lambo, 19, of 8 Country Squire Road on the afternoon of July 27 with carrying a dangerous weapon and with second degree breach of peace for allegedly firing a BB-gun through a screen door at a Winesap Road residence.

Police released Lambo on $500 bail for an August 10 court appearance.

Warrant

On the afternoon of July 27, police said they arrested Andrew Lambo, 18, of 8 Country Squire Road at his home on a warrant, charging him with failure to respond to an infraction and with failure to wear a seatbelt. Police said Lambo was charged with the seatbelt violation on May 14, but did not respond to the charge. Police released Lambo on $500 bail for an August 10 court appearance.

South Main Accident

Motorist Neil Payne, 41, of Madison, who was driving a 2003 Toyota pickup truck northward on South Main Street near Sand Hill Plaza about 1:30 pm July 26, stopped for a red traffic signal, after which he was struck from behind by motorist John Lardie, 42, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Saturn sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Lardie a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Flagpole Accident

Police report a two-car accident near the Main Street flagpole about 3:15 pm June 25.

Motorist Theresa Putnam, 52, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty, was traveling southward on Main Street, as motorist Eleanor Gleason, 70, of Castle Hill Road, who was driving a 1989 Honda Civic, was traveling from Church Hill Road toward West Street, when the two vehicles collided in the intersection, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Putnam an infraction ticket for passing on the right.
