Masons Pledge $50,000 For Lockwood Lodge

The Greenwich Masons of Acacia Lodge No 85 has pledged $50,000 for the Lockwood Lodge assisted living residence at Ashlar of Newtown in Sandy Hook.

The pledge includes $30,000 from the lodge and $20,000 from individual members of the lodge.

Opened in 1999, Lockwood Lodge was named in memory of Luke Lockwood, a Greenwich native and early leader of Masonry in Connecticut. He served as worshipful master of Acacia Lodge in 1857, as well as grand master of Connecticut Masons in 1872. It was Luke Lockwood who was instrumental in establishing the mission of Connecticut Masons to care for the elderly. That mission is carried on today through Masonicare, the state’s largest not-for-profit provider of care for older adults.

The pledge from Acacia Lodge will support the residence’s wellness center, which will be named in honor of Luke Lockwood. The Luke Lockwood Wellness Center will be equipped with an examination room, ophthalmology room, dental clinic, and medical director’s office, all used to provide care and treatment to residents of the assisted living facility.

“Nearly 150 years later, Connecticut Masons have stayed true to the mission set forth by Luke Lockwood to help care for the state’s seniors in the name of Masonry,” said John E. Ford, worshipful master of Acacia No 85. “Since Lockwood’s time, the Connecticut Masons have built one of the largest not-for-profit health care networks in the state. Through the umbrella organization, Masonicare offers two long-term care facilities, two assisted living residences, and a variety of retirement living options, acute care, outpatient care, and a statewide home health care network. We’re proud to carry on the tradition and continue to support this mission,” Mr Ford said.

Designed for older adults who should not live alone but do not require nursing home care, Lockwood Lodge offers individual apartments, a home-like atmosphere, and assistance with dressing, bathing, and medication supervision. Personal care, nursing care, and transportation are available, in addition to three meals per day, laundry, housekeeping, and around-the-clock security. Lockwood Lodge is on the campus of Ashlar of Newtown, one of Masonicare’s skilled nursing facilities. It is connected to Ashlar through The Commons, an area that includes rehabilitation services and a wellness center, beauty salon, meeting/activity room, and gift and coffee shop. Both are affiliated with Masonicare.
