Danbury Man Injured In Hawleyville

A Danbury man was listed in fair condition as a patient in Danbury Hospital on Thursday morning, following an unusual motor vehicle accident he was involved in on Wednesday morning in Hawleyville, officials said.

At about 6:53 am on Wednesday, motorist Edward Schroeder, 51, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Honda Civic on eastbound Interstate 84 near Exit 9, when the Honda, for an unknown reason, went off the highway and drove down across the triangular piece of land that lies between the highway and the Exit 9 off-ramp, state police said.

The Honda then crossed over both lanes of Hawleyville Road (Route 25) and came to rest up on an embankment alongside the road, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Schroeder to Danbury Hospital where it was later learned that he had serious injuries, state police said.

Hawleyville firefighters responded to the accident scene. The incident caused traffic delays during the morning rush period. The accident remains under investigation, state police said.
