*THE INDIGO GIRLS have been confirmed for an October 21 show at The Warner Theatre in Torrington, and tickets will be on sale Friday, August 26, at 10 am.
Tickets have been set at $32, $40 and $45, and will be available through www.WarnerTheatre.org or by phone at 860-489-7180.
*This is probably old news for most of you, but I just want to make sure this announcement â which came in while I was on vacation last week â is posted for those of you who may be holding on to SUBLIME WITH ROME tickets for next month.
The band announced on August 15 that the September 4 performance at the Oakdale Theatre has been canceled, along with the scheduled shows in four additional cities. Online credit card sales should have been automatically refunded by now (check your account and call the vendor who sold you your tickets if that returned charge has not yet shown up!); all other sales may be refunded at point of purchase.
A statement issued by the band (and also posted on its website) says in part: â Unfortunately, due to a reoccurring shoulder issue for [bassist] Eric [Wilson], we have to cancel some of our shows in early September so he can have another procedure done. We love this part of the country and were really looking forward to playing for our fans there. We will get new dates scheduled next year so we can come back and rock!â
The band will still be at the FBR15 show in NYC (Pier 5) on September 8 after the Unity Tour with 311 ends on August 26, and has been playing near nightly shows since announcing the break in the tour.
*JOE PROC has a handful of shows coming up in the various incarnations that he performs. The Newtown based musician will be joined by fellow OFF THE HOOK musicians Steve Clark and Abu for a Labor Day Party at 365 Moosehill Road in Monroe on Sunday, September 4. The show will run from 6 to 9 pm and the public (âoutsiders,â according to an email from Joe this week) are welcome.
The trio will then be at Uncorked, 63 Memorial Road in West Hartford, on Thursday, September 8 (8-10:30 pm; call 203-216-2630 for details), and then Joe will be doing a show as DJ Bongo Joe on Saturday, September 17, at Nuvo, 238 Post Road in Fairfield, starting at 10.
*The 3rd Annual Are You Dense MusicFest is taking place this weekend â Saturday, August 27, from 4 to 9 pm â at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury. Are You Dense, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity devoted to raising awareness of dense breast tissue for the early detection of breast cancer.Â
Featured this year will be popular area bands MAJOR MOTION and THE DEVINO BROS OL SKOOL HORN BAND, plus THE JANET ORTIZ BAND, ARTI DIXSON BAND and smooth jazz recording artist MARION MEADOWS, a Connecticut native. Emcee for the afternoon will be Teresa LaBarbera from WTNH News 8.
Are You Dense, Inc. was founded by Dr Nancy Cappello after her own late stage breast cancer diagnosis, after a decade of ânormalâ mammograms. It turned out Dr Cappello, like many women, has dense breast tissue. Mammograms are limited to âseeingâ cancer in women with dense tissue because of the dense breast tissue. The MusicFest event has become the organizationâs principal financial support to spread the word about one of the medical worldâs best-kept secrets, a womanâs breast density.
In addition to five hours of music, Are You Dense MusicFest 2011 will again feature exhibitors as well as silent auction and raffle items. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic baskets. Food and discounted Quassy all day ride passes and Saturation Station will be available for purchase.
Adult tickets (which include parking) are $35 in advance, or $45 at the gate; ages 4-12 are $10 in advance, $15 at the gate; and ages 3 and under will be admitted free or charge.
Additional information and tickets are available through www.AreYouDense.org or by calling 203-232-9570. Ticket outlets also include The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway in Waterbury; The Palace Theater box office, 100 East Main Street in Waterbury; The Print Shop, 450 Wolcott Road (Route 69) in Wolcott; and Canfield Corner Pharmacy, 2 Main Street North (Route 6, at Route 47) in Woodbury.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you⦠on the road.
Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
