DUI Case

Police report that they served an arrest warrant on December 16 against a Springfield, Mass., woman in connection with a 1999 incident.

Police said they arrested Rachel Brier, 42, on charges of failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, and failure to drive to the right. Police said they made the arrest because Brier had not appeared in court to answer to the two motor vehicle charges.

Police held Brier on $15,000 bail for a December 17 court appearance.

High School Fight

Following a December 16 fight between two male students at Newtown High School, police arrested one of the boys on a charge of third degree assault.

Police said they learned that there had been a fight in a locker room and that the victim of the incident had received a facial injury.

Because the boy who was arrested is 15 years old, police did not disclose his identity. Police released that boy to the custody of his parents for a January 3 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Harry K. Enochs, Jr, 49, of 21 Dodgingtown Road was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty eastward on Church Hill Road about 4:56 pm December 14, when he stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Jeep was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Carol J. Mattegat, 66, of 6 St George Place, Walnut Tree Village, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Solara, police report.

Police said the collision occurred when Mattegat was adjusting the Toyota’s heater. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Mattegat for following too closely.

Multiple Charges

Police report they spotted a vehicle traveling southward on Currituck Road about 6:41 pm December 12, that bore an expired vehicle registration sticker on its rear marker plate.

Police said they stopped the auto on Hall Lane to investigate and charged its driver David Hayou, 26, of Shelton with driving an unregistered motor vehicle, theft of a registration insert sticker, driving without automotive insurance, and failure to notify the state Department of Motor Vehicles of an address change.

Police issued Hayou a misdemeanor summons for a December 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Assault

Police said they arrested Jerry Iodice, 46, of 8 Arlyn Ridge Road about 11:30 pm December 18 on charges of third degree assault and second degree threatening after Iodice became involved in a dispute with a family friend at that address. Iodice is scheduled to appear in court on January 4 to answer the charges.

Reflector Theft

Someone stole reflectivized markers from along both sides of a driveway at 23 Whitewood Road sometime between 9 pm December 14 and 8:30 am December 15, police said. Police ask anyone with information about the sixth degree larceny to contact them at 426-5841.

Toyota Vs Dodge

Police report a two-car accident on westbound Church Hill Road, near Exit 10 of Interstate 84, about 3:30 pm December 16.

As westbound motorist Tonya Oberstadt, 42, of 29 Dayton Street was driving a 1997 Dodge Stratus and approaching a traffic signal, the Dodge was struck from behind by motorist Irene Eckert, 83, of 17 Old Hawleyville Road, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla, police said.

 There were no injuries. Police issued Eckert a written warning for following too closely.

Hawleyville Crash

At about 5:30 pm December 14 on eastbound Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Hawleyville Road, motorist Eric Condo, 35, of Shelton, who was driving a 1990 Jeep Cherokee, collided with motorist Nercida Zoto, 28, of 18 Baldwin Road, who was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta, police said.

There were no injuries or enforcement actions taken, police said.

Route 34 Accident

At about 2:47 pm December 14, motorist Brian Duffy, 17, of 3 Tanglewood Lane, who was driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was exiting the parking lot at Misty Vale Deli on Route 34, when the Jeep collided with a westbound 1993 Honda Civic driven by Christina Ward-DeLeon, 21, of  Cheshire, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported both drivers to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. The accident is under investigation.

South Main MVA

Motorist Julie Ganassini, 38, of Monroe, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder southward near 103 South Main Street about 12:25 pm December 17, slowed for traffic conditions, and was struck from behind by motorist Matthew Ulmann, 18, of Monroe, who was driving a 1993 Honda Accord, police report.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the scene to check the condition of Madison Ganassini, 7 months old, who was passenger in the Nissan, police said. The infant received minor injuries, police said. Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters also went to the accident.

Police issued Ulmann an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Legacy Hit

While it was parked in the parking lot at the main post office on Commerce Road on the morning of December 14, someone apparently struck the rear end of a 2002 Subaru Legacy owned by a local woman, police said. The impact damaged reflector panels on the vehicle.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at 426-5841.

Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle accident on eastbound Route 34, west of its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, about 2 pm December 14.

As traffic was stopping in that area, motorist Arirga Brosnan, 39, of 17 Georges Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer, struck the rear end of a 2004 Nissan Maxima sedan driven by Tod Willie, 50, of 56 Butterfield Road, pushing the Nissan into the rear end of a 2001 Dodge Durango driven by Kristina Mills, 35, of 14 Loveland Drive, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Brosnan an infraction ticket to Brosnan for following too closely.

       

Honda Vs Plymouth

Police report an accident at the intersection of West Street and Castle Hill Road about 10 pm December 19.

The accident involved motorist Robert Corea, 65, of 28 Key Rock Road, who was driving a 2005 Honda Pilot, and motorist Katlyn Bolmer, 17, of 38 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 1996 Plymouth Voyager, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Corea a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Firebombing

Police report that sometime between 11 pm December 15 and 6 pm December 16, someone set a residential mailbox on fire on Country Squire Lane by placing a firebomb in it. Country Squire Lane is a dead end street off Bradley Lane, near the Monroe town line.

The mailbox damage amounts to third degree criminal mischief. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 270-8888.

Criminal Warrant

Police said they arrested Joseph Cusimano, 27, of Meriden on an arrest warrant on December 21 at Danbury Superior Court, charging him with second degree failure to appear in court, driving while under suspension, driving without automotive insurance, illegal use of marker plates, and driving an unregistered motor vehicle. The vehicular charges stem from a 2003 incident, according to police.

Cusimano, who is currently an inmate in the state prison system, was arraigned on those charges in court that day, police said.

Warrant Served

Police said they arrested Jessica Villafane, 27, of Milford on a warrant in Danbury Superior Court on December 21, charging her with second degree failure to appear in court and with conspiracy to commit sixth degree larceny. The larceny charge stems from an incident earlier this year at the Big Y supermarket on Queen Street.

Villafane, who currently is an inmate in the state prison system, was arraigned on the charges that day in court, police said.

High School Theft

Police report that they arrested two teenage boys December 21 at Newtown High School, after the boys allegedly stole approximately $40 from lockers in the boys’ locker room.

Police lodged charges of sixth degree larceny against Robert Bergeron, 17, of 89 Poverty Hollow Road, and Andrew Giannettino, 16, of 18 Chestnut Hill Road. Each of the two boys were released into the custody of his parents for January 6 appearances in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

SUV Into Fence

Motorist Phil Ullrich, 20, of 6 Brassie Road, who was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer at about 10:45 pm December 19, was heading northward on Bonnie Brae Drive and then attempted to stop at a stop sign at its intersection with Elm Drive, but slid on the snow-covered road and went across Elm Drive, striking and damaging a fence there, police said.

Ullrich was not injured. Police verbally warned Ullrich for traveling too fast for conditions.
