Flagpole Intersection
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the flagpole intersection at Main Street and Church Hill Road about 10:26 am on August 19.
Robert Bowers, 76, of 8 Timber Lane was driving a 1978 Mack truck westward on Church Hill Road, as motorist Charles Ullrich, 66, of 6 Brassie Road was driving a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser southward on Main Street, police report.
The Mack then attempted to turn left onto southbound Main Street, but collided with the Chrysler, police said. Police said Bowers told them that he did not see the Chrysler before the collision.
There were no injuries. Bowers received an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign, police report.
Bad Check
After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Corriene Godfrey, 61, of Holmes, N.Y., went to the police station on the morning of August 17 and charged with issuing a bad check, police said.
Police said the arrest stems from an incident that occurred in 1996.
After processing, police released Godfrey on $110 bail for an August 31 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Skate Park
On the afternoon of August 16, police received word that someone had vandalized a large concrete bowl structure that is part of Newtown Skate Park at Dickinson Park off Brushy Hill Road.
The criminal mischief involved someone spray painting graffiti onto the bowl, police said.
Police ask anyone with anyone on the vandalism to contact investigating Officer Scott Smith at the police station at 203-426-5841.
SUV Vs SUV
Police report that two SUVs were involved in an accident near 39 Berkshire Road at about 9 am on August 17.
Motorist Dongmei Liu, 46, of Branford, who was driving a 2002 Honda CRV, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Michael Guarino, 24, of Shelton, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, police report.
There were no injuries. Guarino received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.
Wasserman Way
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84 on August 7.
Police said motorist Jennifer Lucas, 25, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2009 Honda Civic sedan, was waiting at a red traffic signal when the Honda was hit from behind by motorist Michael Kennedy, Jr, 22, of 5 Pebble Road, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kennedy a written warning.
Cellphone
Police said that while on patrol about 1:50 pm on August 20, they spotted motorist Maria Prah, 43, of 125 Alpine Drive using a handheld cellphone while driving near the intersection of Church Hill Road and Wendover Road, so they stopped her to investigate.
Police said they charged Prah with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and also with driving with a suspended license.
Police released Prah on a written promise to appear on September 1 in Danbury Superior Court.
Hawleyville U-Turn
Police report that at about 1:12 pm on August 17, motorist Marcia Izzo, 65, of 14 Greenleaf Farms Road was driving a 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-350 sedan northward on Hawleyville Road (Route 25), as motorist Joseph Biraglia, 47, of Danbury was driving a 2011 BMW 535-XI auto southward there.
To avoid a traffic jam at nearby Interstate 84, the Mercedes attempted to make a U-turn, but in doing so, the Mercedes struck the BMW, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Izzo an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Auto Accident
At about 8:40 pm on August 20, police received a report concerning an accident in which a motor vehicle landed in the front yard at 19 Farrell Road in Hawleyville.
Police said that motorist Regina Luquette, 51, of 44 Farrell Road was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer SUV southward on Farrell Road, when the vehicle turned to the right and then struck a rock and a curbside residential mailbox before coming to rest on the front lawn at 19 Farrell Road.
Luquette was not injured. Police said they charged Luquette with violations including making an improper turn, evading responsibility, and driving with a suspended license. Luquette was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges, police said.
Toyota Vs VW
Motorist Sandra Rodriguez, 30, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla sedan about 8:50 am on August 13, was parked at 43 Main Street and then started backing up, but made contact with a parked unoccupied 2004 Volkswagen Passat station wagon, according to police. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
On-Ramp Crash
Motorist Eileen McDonough, 62, of Shrub Oak, NY, who was driving an unspecified vehicle about 5:12 pm on August 21, attempted to negotiate a curve on a wet Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, when she lost control of the vehicle and it struck embankment along the right road shoulder, state police said.
McDonough was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.
Corvette Crash
Motorist Jeffrey Stella, 47, of Southbury was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette sports car eastward on Interstate 84 in the right lane of three lanes, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 11, about 9:40 pm on August 20, when while traveling at an excessive speed, the car suddenly swerved to the left and smashed into some guardcabling, state police said.
The car came to an uncontrolled rest in those cables, state police said.
Stella received incapacitating, but non-life-threatening injuries, in the crash, state police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported him to Danbury Hospital.
The car was destroyed in the crash. Stella received an infraction for making an unsafe lane change and traveling at a speed too fast for conditions, state police said.
Honda Accord
Motorist Kathleen Gartland, 65, of Bethel, who was driving a 2002 Honda Accord westward in the left lane of three lanes on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 4:45 pm on August 20, was negotiating a curve to the right, but drifted to the left and struck guardcabling, state police said.
Neither Gartland, nor four passengers, were injured. State police said they verbally warned her for failure to drive in the established lane.
Tire On Road
Motorist Kimberly Mohs, 21, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta eastward on Interstate 84, about 7,500 feet west of Exit 10, about 7 am on August 19, when she encountered a tire lying on the road, state police said.
Mohs attempted to avoid the tire, but collided with it, state police said. Mohs was not injured.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his rearrest, George F. Zucca, Jr, 68, of Old Saybrook went to the police station on the morning of August 22 to turn himself over to them, police said.
Police said they charged Zucca with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a May 31 Newtown incident.
In that incident, police charged Zucca with using a handheld cellphone while driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, misuse of marker plates, and driving with a suspended license.
After processing on August 22, police released Zucca on $500 bail for a September 1 court appearance.
Two Charged
Police said they charged two residents of 30 Capitol Drive on the evening of August 22, following an investigation into a complaint they had received from that neighborhood.
Police said they charged Frederick Weller, 34, with threatening. Police said they also charged him on a warrant with violation of probation in connection with a December 2005 incident in Stratford.
Police said they released him on $16,000 bail for a September 7 court appearance.
Also, police charged Bridget Weller, 29, with interfering with police. Police said they released her on a written promise to appear in court on September 7.
Moving Violations
Police report that stopped motorist Mark Rothenhausen, 41, of 1 Papoose Hill Road about 6:47 am on August 22 near the intersection of Poverty Hollow Road and Morris Road to investigate.
Police said they charged Rothenhausen with traveling too fast, driving under suspension, driving without automotive insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
Rothenhausen was released on a written promise to appear in court on September 7, police said.
Canoe Swiped
Police report the theft of a canoe from a yard at a Walnut Tree Hill Road residence, near Glen Road. Someone stole the boat sometime between August 3 and August 10. The canoe is a Grumann-brand, silver-colored, 17-foot-long boat. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the theft to contact them, at 203-426-5841.
Honda Vs Ford
Police report a two-vehicle accident involving a minivan and a SUV about 3:24 pm on August 22 near 174 Mt Pleasant Road.
Motorist Richard Werhun, 46, of Plains, Penn., who was driving a 2011 Ford Escape SUV westward on Mt Pleasant Road, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by a westbound 2008 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Lenore Yastremski, 36, of Danbury, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Yastremski for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Violations
Police said that at about 11 am on August 24, they spotted motorist Carlos Araujo, 24, Naugatuck traveling on Wasserman Way with what appeared to be a cellphone held up to his ear, so they stopped him to investigate on the Exit 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84.
Police said they charged Araujo with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving, driving with a suspended license, and driving without automotive insurance.
Police released Araujo on $500 bail for a September 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
SUVâs Collide
About 12:13 pm on August 23, motorist Jennifer Kelly, 21, of 44 Lakeview Terrace was driving a 2005 Infiniti FX SUV northward near 43 Main Street, when she slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Sandra Baldino-Hannan, 42, of 12 Farm Field Ridge Road, who was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia SUV, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Baldino-Hannan a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
